Updated from sources checked on 16 October 2026.
The Hundred uses a 100-ball innings rather than the usual 120-ball T20 allowance. Its official rules explain the distinctive delivery sets and bowling limits. Count legal balls directly to understand the scoreboard without forcing it into a conventional six-ball-over display.

Understanding The Hundred Rules
How the bowling changes
The fielding side changes ends after ten balls. A captain can ask a bowler to deliver five or ten consecutive balls, within a maximum of twenty balls per bowler. Keeping track of sets is therefore a tactical task as well as a scoreboard difference.
Powerplay and timeout
The powerplay lasts twenty-five balls, with two fielders permitted outside the initial fielding circle. The official guide also permits a bowling-side strategic timeout of up to ninety seconds. These are competition rules; do not assume every T20 league uses the same structure.
Read the result and table separately
The match result concerns the runs scored under the applicable conditions. League points and knockout procedures belong to the competition structure. In a weather-affected match, the official revised target is essential. Do not substitute a simple proportional reduction for an authorised target calculation.
What to check next
- Count legal balls, not conventional overs.
- Track each bowler’s remaining allocation.
- Use the announced target after interruptions.
When applying this guide to an actual match, keep the date, competition and source visible. A fixture notice establishes a planned event, a team announcement establishes selection, and a scorecard establishes a recorded performance. Combining those sources gives a more useful answer than treating any one of them as proof of every detail.
